Summer Reading Prizes

We are excited to announce our 2022 summer reading prizes! If you completed the challenge by August 10, you are eligible for the drawing! Check our Facebook for more information on each of the prizes.

Summer Reading 2022

Our Summer Reading Challenge runs from June 29-August 10. We have virtual and in-person challenges for all ages. Submit your challenge sheets or finish your Beanstack challenge by August 10 to be eligible for the end of summer drawing. All completions will be eligible to pick up a free book through August 27 (just hand in your sheet or show us your Beanstack completion).

Who It's For

Calling all readers! Join us for our 2022 summer reading challenge; the theme this year, Read Beyond the Beaten Path, is all about summer camp. We have three separate challeges - one for kids (birth - age 11), one for teens (age 12-18), and one for adults (age 19+). Please note, for emerging readers, caregivers are encouraged to log books read to young participants. And for all ages and reading abilities, whether you love reading a little or a lot, whether you're a kid, parent, grandparent, teen, newborn, or college student, and whether you're a year-round resident or only here for a week... this challenge is for you!

How to Get Started - Kids

For kids, sign up in person in the Children's Room to sign up and receive exclusive goodies.* Once signed up, you can choose to record the challenge in-person or online - please do not do both! To participate online, sign up on our Beanstack portal here. To participate in-person, download and print a summer reading sheet here or pick one up in the library. *You must come to the library to claim your summer reading backpack and book and to officially register. Registration goodies are first come, first served.

How to Get Started - Teens & Adults

Teens and adults get a free book when registering for summer reading - stop by the Check Out Desk to get started. You can participate with physical sheets or online, using Beanstack. Please do not do both! To participate in person, pick up a printed challenge sheet and return it to the Check Out Desk when you complete the challenge. You can also download and print your summer reading sheet. Download a summer reading sheet for teens here. Download a summer reading sheet for adults here. To participate online, sign up on our Beanstack portal here, and visit the Check Out Desk when you complete the challenge.

How to Complete the Challenge

You can read, complete activities, or both! Kids complete a total of ten books and/or activities, while teens & adults complete a total of eight books and/or activities to finish the challenge. You can also double-dip! If you finish a book while doing a reading activity (e.g. reading outside) you can check off the activity and put it in your reading log!

What You Get

Everyone who completes the challenge by August 10 will be entered in our end of summer reading drawings. Additionally, free books will be available for readers to choose from the prize cart - at the Check Out Desk for teens & adults, and in the Children's Room for kids. And if you finish the challenge, you can log more books and/or check off more activities to earn bonus entries. Please note that incomplete registration information may not be counted for the end of summer prize drawing; however, all readers with completed sheets may still claim a prize book.

*Thanks to the Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins, the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, and Goodwill Hunters for help making this year's summer reading challenge possible!
